It has been said ‘life imitates art.” In the case of improvisation, life is art. Improvisational actors are observers and experts in creating and building on information that is presented to them. That is what makes this form of comedy so exciting. These same skills are of tremendous value to those of us who deal with conflict.
Timothy Mahar studied improvisation
with the Second City Comedy Troupes in Toronto and Chicago. He received his Master's degree in Public Administration and Certificate of Advanced Study in Conflict Resolution from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University
Tim has performed improv for over 30 years in addition to hosting and acting on several television programs and movies, along with radio. He has experience as a facilitator and presenter. He has presented and held workshops for various organizations on the topic of creative conflict and crisis management. In addition he has held high level positions as Assistant Dean, and Executive Director at both Syracuse and Cornell Universities.
"Crisis is not to be feared, for it reveals our weakness and brings out the best in some. It pulls back the curtain on the evil manipulation that drives certain individuals while bringing forth the best in others. Crisis spawns creativity, which in the end drives change for the betterment of us all. Most importantly, crisis is not a spectator sport! It takes the passion, imagination, and courage of all of us in some manner to effect that change, especially for those without a voice. Then someday their voices will be heard and injustice will dissipate. Is this a crazy dream? Aren't all great achievements the outcome of crazy dreams? "
